[smokeping-users] Best approach for minimal slave setup (Rasberrypi)

Hello Tobie and friends.
Based on that question from Paul and your answer I would like to add
this as a question/subject for discussion:
After having done an initial proof of concept installation I am planning
to use multiple raspberry pis (debian based minimal pc) as smokeping
slaves in my institution for distributed polling and measuring
(master-slave setup).
I noticed that when installing from the packages (apt-get install
smokeping) the installation assumes that this will be a smokeping server
and thus installs apache, furthermore it assumes the presence of a mail
server and searches for sendmail, failing at the end of the
installation. I have no problem correcting the last issue by installing
postfix first, however I was wondering if compiling from source is the
only way to avoid all that extra installations in a slave setup. Do you
have a suggestion or a different opinion?

It would be great if in the next version (I am hoping for the current
one) we could have two different packages for smokeping (one for server
and a different one for slave) in the various package databases
(debian/Ubuntu, RedHat, SuSE etc). I know it's not for you to fix, just
expressing my wish among peers.

Thank you,

You mean dependencies for running probes you are not using ? That is a
possibility. Although, if you look at the 3.x github repo, you will see
that there is now a script supplied that builds all the dependencies, so
handling is much simpler ...

will look into this ...
