[mrtg] MRTG Install Problem

When attempting to install MRTG v2.8.6, I get the error:

configure: error: Installation or configuration problem: C compiler cannot
create executables.

When executing the configure script.  I'm running RedHat Linux 6.0.  I've
tried uninstalling and reinstalling the C compiler without success.  Can
anyone tell me what I've missed?
