Log files don't need converting, they haven't changed.  The graphs are
completely regenerated from the logs at every run, so if you switch to PNG,
it won't matter.   The only issue that I can think of is any index pages you
have (created by indexmaker) would have to be changed (replace .gif with
.png) or regenerated with the 2.8.8 version of indexmaker.
