These are two different "problems".

1) The averages will not improve if you don't tell MRTG to keep the
   statistics in two minute intervals.  This can be done but is not
   recommended.  Read about this in config.html (in the doc dir)

2) The "snmpd: Connection" message does not necessarily indicate a problem.
   If you query more often, you get more messages...
   It just tells you that there was a connection; why do you think it failed?
