I just put that in there so that I didn't advertise the ip of our modem bank.  The true number in the [] is the IP.

Just something to check:  if you use [_] you are setting a default.  It
is only used if no other options are defined.  Perhaps there is another
option line somewhere in your config and this overrides the gauge option?
