Start using RRDtool (see contrib/14all/) and learn how to use RRDtool.
With this tool you can specify what interval you would like to use when
doing all sorts of things, including this particular calculation.
You could also display 8 to 3, even at 4 or 5 o'clock.
With some efford from your side you could also display max/min/avg from
8 to 9, from 9 to 10 etcetera.
In short: rrdtool is much more flexible than rateup is.
(rateup is the original mrtg process for doing graphs and calculations)
