[mrtg] update interval

my mrtg is set to check stats every 1 min.
the question I have is 
1. does this give more accurate readings to my graphs or will the graphs now
be 5 times higher than what they should be.
2 . snmp give you the average for the last 5 min or the exact figure when
the snap shot is taken.
