If you have snmputil.exe (or a similar program) try walking this part
of the tree: 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.1

I don't know the command but for snmpwalk it would be:

snmpwalk 10.1.254.99 private .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.1

It's output should look similar to:

interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifIndex.1 = 1
interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifIndex.2 = 2
interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifIndex.3 = 3
interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifIndex.4 = 4
interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifIndex.5 = 5
interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifIndex.6 = 6
interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifIndex.7 = 7

My guess is that there is a strange value returned such as

interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifIndex.9 = 4294967295
