[mrtg] rateup.exe error

I continue to experience rateup.exe general protection faults every few days
despite upgrading to 2.8.7:

"Exception: access violation (0xC0000005), Address: 0x00409749"

This problem started when I moved from 2.5.2 to 2.7.4 and has been a problem
ever since.

Is anyone else experiencing this?  Can any recommend a fix?
