That is because the polling is not related to the storing of the data.
The data is normalized to fit into 5-minute slots in the logfile.

Perminute has nothing to do with the polling interval.  It is related to
the default ``persecond'' (which doesn't exist) in "kb per second".

Straight from the docs:

 "Step

     Change the default step from 5 * 60 seconds to something else (I have
     not tested this well ...)

     Example:

   Step[ezwf]: 60
 "

Pay attention to the "not tested" part ...  I have no experience whatsoever
with this option ...   perhaps it will accomplish what you are trying to do.
