[mrtg] Quickie Perl Question

Knowing the experience is broad and I've gotten lost of info before, I have a quick Perl question.

How can I have multiple programs read a value from a file and put it in a variable?  Keeping in mind I'm a complete hack with Perl, here's what I'm trying to do:

I have 262 routers that I'm monitoring.  From time to time, I need to change that based on additions or subtractions.  I have 7 programs that I have to change the variable in to get these to calculate information.  So now I go into each program and change the maxrouter value.  What I would like to do is have this value stored in a file, them point all the programs to read the number from this file.  TIA!  This list is awesome and useful for much more than just getting OIDs, that's for sure!
