[mrtg] Counting Connections

Has anyone determined a way to count "connections" at a router
(specifically, Cisco 7200, 3600, and 2600 series)?

What I would like is to determine how many people are sending or requesting
data at any given moment.

I have thought about doing a snmpwalk on at.atTable.atEntry.atIfIndex.2.1
and count the lines.

tcp.tcpActiveOpens and tcp.tcpPasswiveOpens doesn't seem to tell me what I
want, as the values don't change often enough.

I am trying to make some determination of bandwidth usage per person.

Any ideas?
