[mrtg] bits vs bytes

Will someone please send me an example of the correct use of the Options []
bits variable?   I'm not having luck getting my graphs to display bits vs
bytes.
Also, do I have to have an Option []: bits command per interface or can I
use a "global" Option and if so where in the cfg file.
