[mrtg] Newbie questions

These questions may sound elementary to some...  but the situation is totally frustrating me!

I am running MRTG-2.8.9 on NT.   All MRTG and associated files (Perl..) are all located on my C: .
I use indexmaker sucessfully.

Problem 1:  When I identify WorkDir: c:\inetpub\wwwroot\mrtg, everything works great....  but when
I identify WorkDir: d:\inetpub\wwwroot\mrtg, I must run mrtgkick.bat everytime I want an update.
What am I missing here?   do all files regarding MRTG have to be placed on the D: ? before it will work
properly on the D: ?

Problem 2:  In the course of setting up MRTG and Indexmaker, I ran c:\mrtg-2.8.9\fiveminute\3at.bat and 
mrtgkick.bat numerous times.    Now I have over 3800 processes running instead of  289 ...  how do I
delete these unwanted processes?  I don't find them in the Task Manager where I would normally delete processes.

Any assistance will be appreciated   AND if you are laughing....  I am laughing with you...  :}
