[mrtg] Re: packet loss, latency, and http retrieval time.

I'm starting to work on some of this but I'm not there yet. I will be
graphing the ping avg and deviation between min/max as the 2 variables. The
script captures the packet loss value but I already have 2 variables so I'm
thinking I might create an alarm on the side for packet loss and not graph
it. This set up will also be a proxy like service with a central mrtg
script calling remote servers to execute the ping and return the values.
Nothing too fancy but a distributed ping measurement system is nice to have.

http retrieval time I'm not sure how to handle yet in perl. The connection
part probably won't be a problem. It is the time measurement I haven't
figured out how to do yet. All I have been able to figure out so far is to
measure to a granularity of seconds (basically using time functions). I'd
like granularity of milliseconds at least but I haven't found a technique
in perl yet that is simple to code. If anyone knows how to do this your
experience would be appreciated.

cheers,
brad...
