Cisco IOS 12.0(3)T and up adds support so that sub-interfaces (serial, ATM,
frame-relay) are assigned individual SNMP IF #s. Previously it was not an
absolute that sub-interfaces would have unique SNMP IF #s and could be
reported on individually (without resorting to using the CISCO-AAL5-MIB,
ATM-MIB (1), and CISCO-ATM_EXT-MIB, for ATM interfaces at least).
I would guess that what's happened is that the SNMP IF #s have changed for
your interfaces as a result of the sub-interfaces now being assigned their
own SNMP IF #s.
I recommend that you either do your own SNMPWALK or use cfgmaker (directing
to a temp file) on the router to confirm SNMP IF #s for all interfaces,
comparing this new info to what you have in your existing config file.
I also recommend that you use IP addresses (instead of the SNMP IF #s) to
reference your interfaces so as to minimize the possibility of problems like
this, or at least the impact, and that you *always* verify your SNMP IF#s
after doing any sort of update (adding/removing/changing interfaces,
upgrading IOS) on your router.

Subject: [mrtg] Upgrade of Cisco 7507 to IOS 12.0 hoses subinterfaces in
MRTG?
We recently upgraded a Cisco 7507 from IOS 11.1(24)CC to IOS 12.0(7)T.
After the upgrade, all seemed OK, including our MRTG config; however,
after the next config change (on another router) and resultant run of
cfgmaker and indexmaker, I repeatedly get:

All of the targets which are generating this error are related to
an ATM interface and its subinterfaces: in particular, target 8 is
automatically titled "ATM5/0/0.0-atm subif" and seems to actually
relate to the configuration of the whole interface, target 13 is
titled "ATM5/0/0.2-atm subif", and target 15 is titled
"ATM5/0/0.4-atm subif". It seems worthy of note that:
- target 6 is titled "ATM5/0/0", and seems to generated good data
on total traffic through the ATM interface, as it did before;
- target 7 has the "This Interface is one...commented out..." blurb,
and is titled "ATM5/0/0-atm layer"; target 9 also has the blurb and
is titled "ATM5/0/0-aal5 layer";
- target 10 is active, and titled "ATM5/0/0.0-aal5 layer", but seems
to generate a blank (all 0's) graph;
- target 14 is titled "ATM5/0/0.2-aal5 layer", and seems to generate
good data for the one subinterface; target 16 is titled "ATM5/0/0.4-aal5
layer", and seems to generate good data for the other.
Suggestions? MRTG 2.7.5 under Solaris 2.6.
Thanks for any assistance,-g
