[mrtg] Initial Setup Problem

I am trying to run MRTG-2.8.11 on an NT Server (SP5) to monitor the serial
interface of a Cisco 3640 router.
When I execute ..
perl mrtg mrtg.cfg
the system responds with ..
un\rateup'ute 'mrtg-2.8.11
before returning me to the command line.
Two files are created in the mrtg-2.8.11\run directory ..
mrtg.ok
mrtg.cfg_I
but no other files are created.
Any help with my script or problem would be appreciated.
