General rule of thumb:

You can do anything you want to to the .cfg file (including calling it
something else).

Life is simpler if you don't annoy either MRTG or your HTTP daemon.

So. You can add target definitions, change the words that show up on
the page, delete definitions, and so on and so forth.

I rarely use the configuration generated by cfgmaker without doing _something_
to it.

When I am adding something that cfgmaker can handle, I run it into a
work file (because it does almost everything right), then I go through
the work file deleting targets I'm not interested in for one reason or
another, changing the Title andthe headings to my taste, change the
speed description to locally meaningul stuff, and so forth.

And sometimes I annoy MRTG or the HTTP daemon (or both) and have to back
and fix it.

There is a lot of stuff on the page referenced below that cfgmaker never saw.

The point is: MRTG is remarkably docile and obedient--does what I tell it
to unfailingly.

Or did I misunderstand the question?
