[mrtg] how do I clear counters for an interface completely?

I have a Cisco 25XX router whre I want to monitor in/out errors, I
issued a clear counters commadn frothe interface, but MRTG still gets
teh old cumulative value, can I restart that SNMP counter?  thanks,
