[mrtg] Win98 machines in use?

Hi all,
I am running MRTG on WinNT, works fine if a little disk intensive.
I need to monitor the # of Win98 machines in use (powered on) in our student
lab. I tried the sum ifOperStatus across all IP's to no avail.....is there
another way to go about this? Something which perhaps would return 1 if on
and 0 if off, so I could just perform a sum?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
