Speaking as another newbie, I thought everyone *was* pretty friendly.
Read-the-manual is a reasonable instruction.  (Even "RTFM").  I've just
been working out some of the very details this guy asked about, because I
thought it was unreasonable to bother folks with this kind of question.  

I'd like to thank all the people who take time to answer at all, and who
have taken time in the past.  It's made the mailing-list archive quite
helpful.
