These are pretty normal counters --> do not use gauge nor absolute

This shouldn't be a problem.  This may happen to routers too.

It does matter if the counter is too slow.  If the normal increase
is below 1 per second (so: 300 hits per 5 minutes), mrtg won't
display anything.  In that case you should use "perminute" or even
"perhour".
