[mrtg] Re: Alter MRTG Input/Output graph method

Thanks for the response. I'm aware of the issue with graphic utilization
for full-duplex versus half-duplex. My primary concern with trying to do
this is for WAN links, not LAN links. I only have a few links internally
that are full duplex anyways... most are just a standard 10 MB link....
what I'm really trying to get at is seeing when my WAN links are going
over their CIR and when they are nearing their capacity...

I've seen this RRDtool thing everywhere in the docs but I've never heard
of it. My presumption is that its because I've lived in a Microsoft
world for so long out of necessity that I've just never run across it...
I'm running MRTG on an NT machine... What is the RRD tool and does it
work with NT?

Thanks in advance...

Well, on Full Duplex links you can exceed your 100% mark, because you
get
bandwidth going both ways. So it's not a real measurement.

You could still display 100k of usage, but it's not really 100kper
second of
usage in the interface. it's 40k of usage on the inbound channel, and
60k on
the outbound. their not really using up the same space, so it doesn't
really
make sense to graph it that way.

On half duplex links, it makes sense though, since the link really is
limited
to 10mbit both ways.

I couldn't begin to tell you how to do it though. I suppose you could
do it
with RRD tool, but I don't know how.
