[mrtg] Initial .cfg file for UPS monitoring

I'm pretty sure I'm going where others have gone already, but I'm trying to
figure out how to get mrtg to talk to an APC ups with an AP9605 SNMP card.
I've seen examples of existing config files, and I'm aware of having to hand
edit an existing .cfg file for MIB loading and specific OID calls, etc., but
just how do I go about generating the initial .cfg file for the UPS in the
first place?
