[mrtg] ifName?

I tried comp.dcom.net-management and comp.protocols.snmp with no luck, so
now I will try the list.

In some of my cfgmaker-generated files I notice that the ifName field has
been filled in with information that does not correspond with any entries
in the config of my (cisco) router.

I do not see any leaf under the
iso(1).org(3).dod(6).internet(1).mgmt(2).mib-2(1).interfaces(2) entry to
correspond to ifName

I would very much rather refer to my 3Com switch ports based on a logical
name rather than a physical unit and port number (or worse, the arbitrary
and always-changing logical port number).

Who?  What?  Where is ifName?
