[mrtg] threshold monitoring and rrdtool problem

I was wondering if anyone is aware of a problem with getting RRDtool and
threshold monitoring in MRTG to coexist.  I'm running MRTG 2.9.4 and
threshold monitoring by itself works.  But when I switch logformat to
rrdtool, it's as if the threshold checking mechanism sees only 0 values.

Are these two features mutually exclusive?
