Had a problem similar and yes it does complain eh !
Target[somewhere]:  OID&OID:public at somewhere.com +
OID&OID:public at otherplace.org + etc
you still have to have two ! cryptic eh !
and yes mrtg still complains but works ( well for me it works )
Oh by the way this works in NT do not know about *nix
