Great response, Margaret. It was well thought out and wonderfully written.

I am a relative newbie on this list and to MRTG (barely 5 weeks).

I, for one, would NOT be for moderation. The abuses have been, in the month
I have been a member, relatively minor. They are mostly along the line of
RTFM. The abuse that triggered this thread was an aberration.

Yes, those who post before they read the available documentation are
annoying, but someone usually gently points them to the document that they
should have read in the first place. But is moderation the answer?

Let's also admit [probably stepping on toes here] the documentation isn't
the easiest thing to use. Yes, the information needed is written, somewhere;
I have found it hard to find what I was needing. It took work to find. A lot
of people find it easier to post here than dig to find the answer. Someone
is usually willing to provide a gentle quick hint and pointer to the
appropriate document / web site. That has been all I have needed.

What us newbies learn is that MRTG is what you make of it. There are some
wonderfully creative network admins in this community that have taken this
cool tool and made it sing rock operas. Please give us aspiring
under-studies the benefit of the doubt and a little grace.

[a wonderfully written, well thought out response]
