Remember to add the correct commands in the PIX.

snmp-server host <interface> <host running mrtg>
snmp-server community <snmp password>

That should fix it.

Subject: [mrtg] mrtg on pix

I installed mrtg and got it running with most of our equipment but have a
few minor(?) problems.

- How do I run mrtg as a daemon. I have it running in cron but the
monitoring
machine could use any performance breaks I can give it (It's a
sparc5,Sol6)

- It wont work on our pix 520. We're on the inside interface but running an
ancient version of the IOS (4.0.7). While snmp is enabled, there isn't an
option to set the community name. Yet running cngmaker, it does report the

snmp strings I set. Specifically, the cfgmaker output is:

SNMP Error:
Received SNMP response with error code
  error status: noSuchName
  index 1 (OID: 1.3.6.1.2.1.4.20.1.1)
SNMPv1_Session (remote host: "222.111.2.1" [222.111.2.1].161
                  community: "public"
                 request ID: 1440284985
                PDU bufsize: 8000 bytes
                    timeout: 2s
                    retries: 5
                    backoff: 1)
########
######## This Interface not configured :
######## - administratively not UP
######## - has an unrealistic speed setting
######## It is commented out for this reason.
########
#

I even tried changing interface speed from autonegotiate to 10baset

TIA
