[mrtg] Help please!!

Hello everybody!!
I really don't know how to STOP MRTG working!
I started with the command (on NT4 server)

perl mrtg mrtg.cfg   (cfg has:   runasdaemon: yes )

and now i'd like to modify the .cfg file and re-run it.
But i have to stop it before!

I also need to know how to calculate (sum) the TOTAL bytes
sent and received by my router in the last month and week.
Is it possible with MRTG ??
