Without anything further to go on, it might be that the SNMP requests are
causing it to fail. If it has many ports and lots going on, a CPU can be
panicked by multiple SNMP hits simultaneously. Alternatively it could be a
firmware bug.
I would check the following
1) make sure firmware is most recent and it isn't a known issue
2) test the router with another snmp program (for example getif for
windows) to see if it crashes ; if so, it's not an MRTG problem, its a
hardware problem
3) try it during a point in the day you know to be quiet from a network
standpoint to see if it is just that the router was v. busy during your
first attempts

I just installed for the first time the MRTG. I can run the cfgmaker against
my Ascend router, but when I do the same thing to my Cisco router the darn
router reboots! Does anyone have any idea what I need to do?
