[mrtg] Cisco 29xx switch target question

Hi,
I am monitoring a number of Cisco 29xx switches and I am having difficulty
working out how the targets apply to the physical ports of the switch. For
example, I have a line into physical port 1 and the target set to 2 in the
MRTG config file. Do the Cisco switches count their console port and VLAN
addresses as a target or is there and easier was of monitoring specific
physical ports?
