Use the unknaszero option on the target within the configfile.  This may be
the case for your portmaster and it is substituting the last valid numbers
instead of assuming zero for invalid data.

Example from my config file using default options:
Options[_]: growright, unknaszero, bits

I'm monitoring modem's on a PortMaster.
When the moden is not up(active), MRTG just remember the last data that was
gathered.
So I get an straight line in my graphs.
Is there a way to tell MRTG, that when a modem is inactive, the data should
be zero?
