SInce you mentioned it...

I do 1 and 2, 3 is out of the picture (could see the need for it)

I have been told the same thing about monitoring...if there is a metric
for it, I want to monitor it. I've even taken over the duties of
monitoring ntp. Right now that is done manually, but I'm going to
automate the monitoring of it. We use two commercial products, but
I can't say I need either of them. I can easily replace what both are
doing and incorporate it under Big Brother and MRTG, but it would
not be too smart for me to do it. We use CiscoWorks. It's ok, but I
don't really use that too much. Same deal with IBM Director. Not
impressed, but the upper-shirts wanted to bring it in.

Plus for little things, I use SolorWinds, NeoTrace, and GetIf.

All on a few linux boxen, with more coming in any day now...

and my NT workstation just to access it all. I'd like to have a
linux workstation, but that wouldn't fly here...

I have been using mrtg (windows & Linux), bigbrother, and netsaint for
monitoring purposes for sometime now.

1)	MRTG is used for bandwidth management mainly
2)	BigBrother is used for uptime, services and bandwidth/load (lard
utility)
3)	Netsaint is used for network overview, pageload times, printer
monitoring, etc

I currenty am running all 3 on a Linux server along with webmin (huge time
saver!)
As you can see from the above, I am off the deep end when it comes to
monitoring

Any rants or raves about the 3 mentioned utilities.
Are there other monitoring utilities similar to the above that anyone would
recommend?
Basically, I am looking for feedback and suggestions on various network
monitoring agents.

Thanks,
