[mrtg] Interface Description on Juniper Routers

What I have noticed is that I cannot get the Juniper interface description to appear in the MRTG configuration.  I have tried with MRTG 2.8.12 and 2.9.17.  The best I can tell is that Juniper populates the field with the interface name.  All the other fields seem correct.  Does anyone have any experience with this?
