Changing from the OID to the MIB only adds complexity. Only go to
there once the OID is working properly. There's really no technical
reason to use it. Just easier on readability of the config. It actually
adds overhead because you need to load the MIB in order to
run the query.
As for gauge, that is most likely it. The best way to determine that
is to look at the log file. If the first line is populated and all the
rest are zeros, it indicates you should probably use gauge (if it
works from the command line).

Currently I use just the Oid, but I was going to try the MIB since it was
not working.
As for Guage - only on the Load section - could that be it?

If you use MRTG, do you use gauge?
As for loadMIBs, why are you doing that? Do you use the
MIB in the target line or the OID?
