if you specify "bits", it do multiply by 8
(the errors i get are not a number*8, it's a little bit smaller)

in "MRTG 2.9.8beta configuration reference"
bits
All the monitored variable values are multiplied by 8 (i.e. shown in bits
instead of bytes) ......
