[mrtg] ifOperStatus and Intervals

I am trying to monitor my two routers with MRTG, I want to be able to
monitor the link status once every one or two minutes, so I will be able
to tell approximately how long my T1 has been down. I have it working
using something like the following (ip's changed):
### Interface 1 >> Descr: 'Ethernet0/0' | Name: 'Et0/0' | Ip:
'12.34.151.198' | Eth: ###
Target[12.34.151.198_1]:
1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.8.1&1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.7.1:public at 12.34.151.198:
Options[12.34.151.198_1]: nopercent, gauge
MaxBytes[12.34.151.198_1]: 3
Title[12.34.151.198_1]: Link Status for Router1 - Ethernet0/0 - IP:
12.34.151.198
PageTop[12.34.151.198_1]:
Link Status for Router1 - Ethernet0/0 -
IP: 12.34.151.198

A returned value of 1 means it is up, 2 means it is down, and 3 is in
Testing.
I also edited C:\mrtg\lib\mrtg2\MRTG_lib.pm in order to change the
default interval to 1 instead of 5. This interval works fine when using
it for the basic traffic monitoring. But in this ifOperStatus instance,
when I unplug my T1 from the router, it takes 5 minutes before it starts
graphing the status as down, and if I plug the T1 back in after it has
been down for 7 minutes, it will only show that it has been down for 2
minutes.
Can anyone give me any suggestions as to how I can accomplish this?
Make my config any better? Oh, by the way, I am working with Cisco 2610
routers.
Thanks in advance,
