[mrtg] How can I receive warning when a port loses connection ?

Hello,

I have been using MRTG for many years, for monitoring  the traffic of my 
Cisco 25xx routers. Do you know how I can use MRTG to give me notice (can 
be a mail message, a sound, message on a web-page etc.) when a specified 
port is not responding, that is to say, it has lost connection ?
