I use the Include command for each device I'm polling and name the scripts
so I can remember them later on.
This way I have greater control and flexibility in controlling and changing
each script.
I think (and I'm sure someone will prove me wrong) that MRTG processes the
script, including the included scripts, as one big script, checks for
errors, then executes it.
This way having one big script is the same as 20 small ones to MRTG.
It may take a fraction of a second longer to process each script, but I bet
you won't notice any difference.
