SNMP should be enabled on the device where you want to collect your
statistics from.  If the servers are connected directly to the switch,
it shouldn't matter if you measure the interface on the sun or the
interface (port) on the switch --as long as you're only interested in
ethernet traffic--.

I guess if you do not need any other statistics than just ethernet
traffic, it is best to use the cat5000 stats.  If you need other stats
such as disk io, you *must* use the daemon on the sun, just because the
switch doesn't know anything but ethernet.

www.sun.com and www.cisco.com, however you don't need to do
that if you're just measuring the default ethernet stats.  See
cfgmaker and its manual.
