[mrtg] How to read a string value

Hey,
I use MRTG to supervise my network composed of Compaq serveur and Hp serveur.
I have no problem to return data but I can't return string like "OK, Failed, Error".

I know, I must to creat a script which permit to solve my problem but I not an expert in this domain.

Someone can give me the script or the solution which permit to return strings with MRTG.
