On 17 Jul 01 , Yoann DUGUE entreated about
 "[mrtg] How to read a string value":

} Hey,
} I use MRTG to supervise my network composed of Compaq serveur and Hp serveur.
} I have no problem to return data but I can't return string like "OK, Failed, Error".
}
} I know, I must to creat a script which permit to solve my problem but I not an expert in this domain.
}
} Someone can give me the script or the solution which permit to return strings with MRTG.

an idea: my mail server counter script delivers 3 values, bytes in,
bytes out and 'errors', so I have my script (awk) add that value to
the device name, so it gets displayed on the web page.
see
http://terrapin.ru.ac.za/departments/iwr/mrtg/iwr.13.html
for an example

I know its out of date, the PC that ran MRTG has been reallocated, so
now I'm trying, with subdued success, to configure a SPARCstation 5
to do it
