Why no have a look at my daemon that I have created.
When your using the daemon, the script is memory resident only when it's run
for an update.
With other daemons the Perl process and the script is memory resident 24/7
Look at http://www.geocities.com/mrtg_daemon
This may not solve your memory problems, but it could work as a work around
solution.
Let me know if it does help.
