You will receive errors until it really is 17:00.
There's not much you can do about it.
If you dare, you can delete the lines from the log file, start at the
second line and delete about 144 lines, however it is not sure MRTG
can cope with such a damaged log file. If you try this, make very
sure to save the file first so you can restore it if necessary.
Also save (and restore if necessary) the backup log file (*.old).
