Add to what Alex said:

SNMP is a protocol (cf. "P" in SNMP) for sucking information out of tables
in a bright box.

If the box doesn't put a fact or meta-fact in a slot (identified by the
slots "OID") SNMP can't produce it for you and MRTG can't (therefore)
graph it.

Which is not the whole picture, because MRTG will graph non-SNMP data
in you pass it as for ASCII lines of which the first two is the the
interger data to be graphed.
