[mrtg] how to configure mrtg to get data from file

hi All there

I am new to this list 
I am new to snmp and mrtg also
I had tryed to installed mrtg to my RH6.2 Linux server for maonitor the amount of traffic flow through
my server with good graphs but i was unsuccesful i had been into loop with snmp and mrtg 
I know this can be done with mrtg 

so its is an request to any one who had done it before to pls send me the detail regarding this
