I have forgotten what "OID" literally stands for (the "D" is "descriptor"
I'm pretty sure) and am too lazy to look it up.

But functionally it is an ugly string of numbers and dots (with
symbolic equvalents for each number) that describe the "path" to a particular
datum in the data structure ("MIB"--Managment Information Base) created
by an SNMP (Simple Network Managment Protocol) agent.

There are a bunch of RFC's (disrmember any of the numbers but 1155 might
be one of them) that obfuscate all of this.
