Marc, As far as I understand it works like this

Normally MRTG configurations simply specify the SNMP port number. Given this,
MRTG's default behavior is to access the "ifInOctets" and "ifOutOctets" values.
MRTG wants two (and only two) values to graph, and these are specified with two
explicit OIDs separated by an ampersand. In this case, the two OIDs are identical
so only one parameter is effectively graphed.
