[mrtg] Linux or Cable Modem ?

I have ran mrtg before, and love it.  I have a question for the list.  I have a cable modem now.  Can i use mrtg to monitor my traffic with that?  also i have a linux box as my firewall.  For thos that have used linux 7.0, how do you edit the snmp.conf file, so that you can allow mrtg to make a graph.  any help will be appreciated
